There’s an RP game where characters can fill the roles of ancient deities and I was thinking about the possible gods Aku might identify with. I was thinking Azathoth (fictional Lovecraftian god) or an Egyptian god like Apep or Set. Now I keep picturing Aku dressed like an Egyptian god…
Aku has decent ties to Egypt actually.
Between “Extremely Overprotective of Gift Aku” and “Who Let The Dogs Out Aku”, Egypt’s like his favorite place (probably)
Aku is also literally Nyarlathotep (Lovecraft)
Let’s ignore that Samurai Jack’s historical timeline is totally wonky for a moment and imagine that Aku, after conquering Jack’s people, decided to take a tour of the world (coincidentally visiting a few of the places Jack trained at as a child, possibly just years later.) And when he discovers Egypt and its gods and pharaohs, he’s so fascinated he decides to model his own rule after what he saw there.
Like ‘look at how they revere their kings and gods. This is what I want.’ And so he made himself godking of the world to whom all would pay tribute. That or the wall art was faked to make modern day people believe Aku was worshiped in Egypt because it’s what he desired.
Either way I’ve over-analyzed way too hard again.
Don’t get me started on Nyarlathotep. Aku shares the literally-Nyarlathotep role with a handful of other cartoon villains (Black Hat, The Beast, Nergal from Billy and Mandy, off the top of my head. I know he’s in some anime too. I would love to see a full list.) So if I had to choose a god-role for Aku to fill, it would be between Nyarly and Set.
“You are most welcome, Azura. I’m glad you enjoyed it,” he grinned. Then his gaze fell upon the necklace.
“Ah, yes. It is a charm that contains my physical being so that I will always be with you wherever the universe takes you.” And when activated, it would help him to locate her across the dimensions. But that part remained unspoken.
