who are the best dads you’ve had? and the worst?

curioosity:

“My best dad will always be my own dad. I can’t say I have the worst father figure because I don’t?

Jack is a mentor of mine who looks after me and teaches me stuff back when I was in his world, and Aku has been surprisingly compassionate despite his fearsome title. He thought me how to fight properly, gave me a place to stay while I had none, and he checks in on me from time to time, even passed on a weapon that helped me shield myself from Gaster’s attack that one time.

I think that… Mr. Aku is a good father figure I ever had. One could easily assume he’d be the worst but he’s the best to me.” She smiles fondly at the thought.

“…”

That’s his girl.

I stand proudly by the words of my daughter.

Though I will point out that I am still immensely fearsome.

💬 “I heard that you think you are leaving me, Azura.”

curioosity:

Uh oh.

“The rumors are true, but… it’s not that I’m thinking of leaving you, but more like I’m going to go back home?” Oh dear, she’s giving him the nervous smile and shrug.

The demon frowned. Did it sadden him to hear she was leaving? Yes. Did he still fear for her safety? Absolutely. But going home was what she wanted and as much as Aku wanted to keep her forever, he knew that he could not. It felt strange to let someone else have what they wanted while he would lose something in turn. It felt strange and wrong.

However, Aku was a magical and (sometimes) clever being. He was sure he could find a way to see her again.

I hope you did not think you would go home without telling your boss goodbye,” he said, bending closer.

And not without a hug!”

Azura stared at the charm for a moment, before it settles into her opened palms. It may be tiny, but it did gave her an advantage to properly fight the doctor back, and his horrible mutt when it mattered. She frowned.

“I wish I didn’t have to use it,” she said sadly. “But it helped when it did and I’m sorry that I lost it, sir.” She ran her fingers softly on its glassy surface, half heartedly praying that the next time she wore this, it would remain as simply an accessory. And nothing more.

So it had been helpful to her. Aku was pleased to hear that. Very pleased. He leaned back with a proud smile and raised his hand to her, palm facing out as if to halt Azura’s words mid-sentence.

Now now, there is no need for apology,” he said. “It is there for you to use whenever you need and I will gladly replace it as many times. What matters most is that you continue living your life, however mortal it may be.

Or immortal. It was hard to tell these days but in 50 years they would know.

curioosity

Azura tries to give Aku a small smile, but it didn’t truly reach her eyes. “Just a little migraine, sir.” If migraines would include having whispers in one’s head along with a burning sensation. “It might be from the lack of sleep. There’s been too much for her to process, and not enough time to truly rest. Not after knowing that Gaster’s still out there…”

Something was at her advantage however. If she could truly accept a greyface’s words to be true, then Gaster would be wise to not confront her any time soon, not with the stone still in her possession. “I’ve heard that our last encounter made him cautious of me, so that’s a good sign. Maybe after this I can finally get some decent shut eye.”

That is good to hear. And I see that you’ve used the charm.” He noted the missing gift he’d given her. Hopefully it had served her well. “I did say I would replace it.

And he’d meant it. He raised his hand and squeezed it into a tight fist. When his claws unfurled, a new charm sat on his palm. At his unspoken command, it floated from his hand through the air and hovered before Azura.

curioosity

“I don’t know. I can’t pry it out of my soul because if I did that, Gaster would hunt for it more easily. At least I have the upper hand on that part.”

Azura rubbed her temples. The burning migraine had been coming and going, and it was getting difficult for her to cope as time passes.

“As long as I keep it and my temper in check, I would be fine. I think.”

I think it is wise of you to keep the stone. It will be safer in your hands than in any other’s.” If there was one person in the universe Aku would trust to hold such a powerful and dangerous object, that person would be Azura. She seemed to have a connection with it, an understanding. As much as the demon would like to get a hold of such a stone for himself, it was Azura who needed it.

To remove it would be to remove the protection its powers grant you.” And that would allow beings like Gaster too many opportunities for catastrophe. Aku’s gaze caught the movement of Azura’s hands. The way she had rubbed her temples hadn’t escaped his notice… “Does your head hurt you?“

curioosity

“Something like that, yeah.” Azura rubbed the back of her neck nervously. She never really had someone to talk about this particular thing, always feared of being judged as a horrible monster. It was one thing to think herself as that. Another else entirely when others confirm it.

“When I hurt someone out of sheer anger, I tend to lose myself in my rage. Its like… I enjoy hurting others, even if its briefly. I want them to feel what I felt. I wanted them to suffer. And when you kill someone in that state, its hard to snap out of it. It’s… terrible. The last time that happened, I was under Bill’s influence. I-I don’t want something similar like that to happen again.”

Aku, of course, being a mass murderer himself with no remorse, hardly blamed Azura for her feelings and actions. This was all completely normal to him and he saw no real reason to be upset about it. But she was upset, and is was because she, unlike him, was human.

What, is it not normal to want to hurt someone after they’ve hurt you? They deserve punishment,” Aku paused, tightening his claws in a fist. Yes they did. Punishment was the least they deserved for hurting her.

But I see where you and I differ. I take pride in the results of my rage while you take shame in yours. You are a human with morals, after all.” The demon rolled his eyes. It was sort of unfortunate that she was plagued with morality but there was little to be done about it now. He paced back to her, pausing just before her.

What do you want to do about the stone?” he asked.

unspeakablyevil:

@curioosity

Only an unworthy FOOL would call you that for destroying the parasite known as Gaster! Do you think people will call Jack a murderer should he manage to destroy me? NO. They will hail him a hero.

“True, but… I’m mostly afraid of going overboard, you know? After what happened with Bill, I fear of losing control and hurt others…”

”

Aku’s rage slowly boiled away and subsided as he considered her words.

I see… It is yourself that you fear.” The demon clutched his forearms behind his back and paced in contemplation. “Why is that, Azura? Do you fear you have not learned from your mistakes in the past?”
